Learn relaxation techniques and how to use storybooks to practice healthy coping skills with clinical psychologist Dr. Melissa Munro Boyd. Make a calming glitter jar to take home. Dr. Boyd is the author of the Skills for Kids series of books, including B is for Breathe.
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Bel Air Branch is excited to welcome clinical psychologist Dr. Melissa Munro Boyd, who will present on how storybooks can be used to engage children (and parents!) in learning about feelings and helpful ways to practice healthy coping skills in daily life. She will also share relaxation techniques, including deep breathing and guided imagery. Dr. Boyd is the author of the Skills for Kids series, and she will read two of her picture books, B is for Breathe and Creating Calm. Books will be available for purchase following her presentation, and children can participate in hands-on activities, including creating a calming glitter jar.
