Learn best practices for creating and sustaining a safe, welcoming, and eco-friendly backyard habitat for your feathered friends.

Since 1970, the bird population of North America has declined by almost 3 billion birds, mostly due to habitat loss.  In this presentation, you will learn best practices for creating and sustaining a safe, welcoming, and eco-friendly backyard habitat for your feathered friends.  Greg Murray, President of the Harford County Maryland Master Gardeners, and Mary Murray, Education Coordinator of the Harford Bird Club, will share the four essentials needed for bird habitat, appropriate native plant varieties, and easy tips and tricks for making your own property a haven for wildlife.  You will leave with a new view of your garden and practical ideas to implement immediately.

The Jarrettsville Library is located near the intersection of Routes 165 and 23.  In addition to a meeting room, we have a spacious, natural light-filled reading area in which visitors may read or connect their devices to WIFI.

The Historic B&O Railroad in Aberdeen

Chartered in 1827, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was the nation's oldest railroad. In 1886, the opening of new tracks linked the B&O from New York City to Washington and Chicago. The new Aberdeen station was a critical component to the growth of the city. Aberdeen's canning industry and the US military shipped their products from the station. Passenger service gave locals easy access to all the major cities. Learn about the past, present and future of this historic 1886 station. Presented by Friends of the Aberdeen B&O Train Station President Peter Dacey and Historic Consultant Mary Rasa.
