Meeting RoomDid you know our Founding Fathers created the postal service in 1775? Explore the history of the Post Office including local Maryland contributions with Junemarie Brandt, U.S. Postal Service Senior Research Analyst for Postal History.
Our Founding Fathers created a postal service in 1775–before we were even a nation–recognizing the importance of creating an institution that could bind the nation together and support communication to distant settlements. The Post Office played a key role in shaping our nation’s growth through innovative delivery methods, unique buildings, and trailblazing employees. Our local history reflects this storied past: the first Harford County post office was in a town that no longer exists, a Postmaster General from nearby Port Deposit, and the first known woman postmaster, Mary Katharine Goddard of Baltimore. Presented by Junemarie Brandt, U.S. Postal Service Senior Research Analyst for Postal History.
